This is the foundational course to start off your relationship with clay. You'll learn basic techniques of pinching, coiling, hollowing and slab building to transform humble a lump of clay into desirable shapes. When your maiden ceramic art pieces emerge from the kiln in beautiful form, texture and colors, you'll experience your first Aha! moment of your pottery journey. ​

Pottery Intermediate: CLAY AFFAIR

Clay AFFAIR builds on your foundational skills to deepen your love affair with clay through a wider repertoire of hand-building techniques. You'll learn how to shape the clay more intimately with your touch. You'll also play with different clay bodies such as stoneware, paperclay, earthenware and white raku, and sense each of their characteristic feel and texture. Creativity freedom is emphasized, with close guidance provided to progress you towards greater creative freedom.

Takeaway: appreciate a wider range of techniques and different clay bodies, from which you can develop your choice approach to your own style of pottery. ​

Pottery Intermediate: CLAY DANCE

Clay DANCE is an intermediate course that follows naturally from Clay AFFAIR. You'll get a lot more serious with clay and learn the amazing throwing technique. Throwing on a turning wheel and seeing a lump of clay rising up like a suave dancer is absolutely sensual and therapeutic. You will learn how to express your heart through the control of your hands to breathe life into clay.

Takeaway: getting your throwing right and onward to an endless journey of mastery in pottery. ​

Course after this: Clay SCULPTURE

Pottery Advanced: CLAY SCULTPURE

This is an exciting new course on Ceramic Sculpture taught by Teacher Chew Seow Phuang. Sculpture brings you into a whole new world of bold expression with 3D forms, shape and contour, texture and colours. There'll be lots of hand moulding, shaping and going with the flow of your inspiration. ​

Prerequisite: you must have foundational pottery grounding (i.e. Clay AFFECTION + AFFAIR) prior to attending this course. Having Clay DANCE throwing skill is highly desirable.

Takeaway: innovative techniques for creative free-form sculpting with clay. ​

PAPERCLAY I

Paperclay is any clay with processed cellulose fibres, paper being the most common, added. Its unique dry-dry and wet-dry joining property offers a whole new dimension of creativity and exciting possibilities. ​

PAPERCLAY II

Armed with basic skills, you'll be guided to design and hand-build 4 sculptures of your own expression using paperclay. You'll be encouraged to push the boundary of possibilities so as to fully appreciate the versatility of paperclay. ​

Pottery for Kids: CLAY IMAGINATION

This 4-session workshop is designed for children under 12 years old to experience the creative fun of pottery. Through play and experimental exploration, the young participants are encouraged to explore different concepts and learn basic techniques such as coiling, hand-building with slabs as well as freestyle moulding in the process of clay creation. The program design is aimed at allowing kids to manifest conceptual ideas into physical realities, thereby encouraging them to explore further to link up their heartwork with their handwork. ​

Course fee: S$180 for 4 x 1.5-hour sessions (Fee includes all clay materials and tools. Firing is extra cost based on volume.) ​

Course after this: Clay TOGETHER

Pottery for Family: CLAY TOGETHER

This program is a family-oriented co-creation project, suitable for parent-child pair (e.g. mummy and son) or an entire family of three generations! Depending on the project selection, we shall advise the appropriate approach.

The key ideas are:
(a) present a focus (e.g. to create a set of soup bowls for the family),
(b) facilitate the family members in the planning process, and
(c) guide each member in the hands-on co-creation stage.

Guaranteed to create a memorable bonding for the entire family. The eventual ceramic artwork will anchor this fantastic experience for a life-time! ​

Course fee: S$300 for a family of 3 members for one 3 hr session (Fee includes clay materials and tools. Firing is extra cost based on volume.)

Single-session: CLAY GIFTS

Wondering what gifts to buy for birthday, wedding, house-warming, shower party...? Why not be totally unique and make your very own gifts using Clay, with a personal touch? You will be guided to design and create a gift of a highly creative and personalized nature. No experience with clay is necessary. We provide the clay and glaze materials, the tools and instruction, you simply create with your heart and hands. Allow 2 weeks for us to glaze and fire your creation. Suitable for both kids and adults. ​

Single-session: STONE MOSAIC

This unique Stone Mosaic art was pioneered by us at Clay-Street. We use coloured stone pebbles to create beautiful mosaic art of all shapes and sizes. You are free to choose whatever designs and we'll guide you step-by-step to making it a reality. Our standard mosaic board size is 18" x 18" but different board dimensions of your choice is available upon request (1 week in advance) and at additional cost. Suitable for adult and kid alike, and especially powerful as a team or family bonding activity.

Takeaways: create a Stone Mosaic on 18" x 18" plywood board. ​

Single-session: AIR-CLAY FUSION ARTS

This unique fusion art workshop combines the 3D nature of air-clay with 2D nature of canvas painting. We call this 2.5D Fusion Art. Our Air-Clay dries by itself in air and comes in 7 bright colours. You'll be guided to combine the 2 artistic media to create a delightful 2.5D artwork. Suitable for adult and kid alike, and especially fun for family bonding over a weekend arts session.

Takeaways: create TWO fusion arts pieces on 6” x 6” canvas panels. ​
